About Me – Laurie On The Move
Hi, I’m Laurie, a self-confessed fast travel addict making country counting work around my 9-to-5 office job. Originally from the UK, I’ve lived in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. I’m now living in Lima, Peru!
I’ve always loved travel, but I spent much of my twenties focused on study and work. That all changed in 2022 after a whirlwind two-week overland trip from Tanzania to Angola. I moved to Asia around the same time — having never set foot on that side of the world before — and I realised I’d lost so much time not exploring sooner.
I started travelling extensively on weekends and public holidays, squeezing adventure into every break I could. I planned smart itineraries that let me visit multiple countries during short vacations and long weekends. At first, it wasn’t about visiting every country. But when I reached 80 countries, I decided to aim for them all. Now at over 120, I’m making a decent shot at it! Who knows if I’ll make it, but I’ve become a much savvier traveller along the way!
I love exploring offbeat and remote destinations — the kind of places many travellers overlook. Like all of the countries in Oceania… or the Guianas… or Timor Leste… But having recently moved to South America I’m also making the most of the more popular destinations here too.
This blog grew from my desire to share real itineraries for short trips, and document my experience of harder-to-reach places in the hope it would help others. Really though, I wanted to inspire other full-time office workers that you can travel the world without quitting your job.
If you’ve ever thought you don’t have time to see the world, I want to show you that you can — with a little creativity and smart planning.
